This full day session will focus on different types of programming approaches used when serving people with disabilities. We will discuss how events with few or no modifications have been designed to meet the program needs of participants with a wide variety of abilities and disabilities. A panel consisting of staff and family members will address the needs of their clients and relatives. The afternoon part of the workshop will be an experiential session that will include several people with disabilities.
- Learning Objectives: At the end of the workshop session, participants will
- Differentiate between segregated, integrated and inclusive programming for people with disabilities.
- Differentiate between accessible and Universal programming.
- Identify concerns and issues of families of people with disabilities and of staff (from group homes, public schools, psychiatric hospital, and developmental center) who have supported involvement of people with disabilities for many years.
- Participate in high ropes elements with people with disabilities.
